C, D & E Division Referee Guidance
Ensure games start on time to prevent subsequent games from getting delayed.
Teams may only have 3 coaches on their sideline during the game.
Game lengths and ball size for each division are as follows;
C = Two 30 minute periods with 5 min half, size 4 ball.
D and E = Two 20 minute periods with 5 min half, size 3 ball.
Teams can play with as few as 6 players, it is courtesy between coaches that they play with even amounts of players, and then add players evenly as more arrive. This is normally what is agreed to but it is not mandatory. You can have 8 on 6 games by the rules.
Move with the play of the game so you have a direct view of what is going on but will not interfere with play. Do not stay in one spot on the field.
When several players are around the ball with other players on the ground in the middle, whistle to stop play and restart with a drop ball. This is to prevent injuries to all players.
Have coaches assign one parent from each team to do the line flags. You can also instruct them to allow you to make the call of who has possession. This prevents confusion of players and coaches with conflicting calls.
Speak clearly and loudly when making verbal calls so all players on the field and coaches can hear you.
Use hand signals to indicate possession/position of ball for throw in, goal kick, after goal, corner kick and free kicks.
The offside law is to be called in C division games. This rule is used for instruction only in D and E divisions.
C, D and E division players get 2 tries for a throw in before possession is changed. After a first attempt you can instruct the player for a proper throw in.
C division can only substitute 4 players at once. Substitutions can be made on possession (throw in), after a goal, goal kick or injury. No substitutions on corner kicks.
For D and E divisions, substitutions may be made on any stoppage of play with the referees consent.
In all RVSL games the clock continuously runs, we do not add time for stoppages. This prevents subsequent games from getting delayed.
If you are the referee for the last game of the day, the Wharton coach is responsible for putting away the benches, line flags and corner flags in the shed.
