| As
you may know, NJ Law 2A:62A-60 ("The Little League Law") was
created to protect volunteer youth sports coaches from personal
exposure to liability law suits. To be protected by the law,
coaches must participate in a "safety orientation and training
skills program". The Wharton Soccer Club (WSC) feels
that is in the best interest of the children and our volunteer
managers and named coaches to attend such a course.
In addition, WSC's own insurance carrier requires that all managers and named coaches be safety certified.
For
these reasons, WSC requires all managers and named coaches who
have not already done so to attend the Rutgers Safety Course. The
course entitled "Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic - Sports Awareness
for Educating Today's Youth" covers a variety of excellent topics
including legal and psychological aspects of coaching, training
and conditioning, and first aid. Coaches completing the
course will receive an information packet and a certification
card. Their names will be permanently entered into the
Rutgers YSRC databank. The certification does not expire.
If
you are interested in coaching Spring or Fall Soccer this year
you will need to take this class. The WSC will cover the cost.
The class normally runs 3 hours. If you are interested in coaching for
Wharton, fill out the application
and we will notify you when a local class is scheduled.
