For over 7 years, The Wharton Soccer Club has offered Travel Soccer to the boys and girls of Wharton. This program has grown from 1 team to 5 teams. Since the level of competition is greater than that of Rockaway Valley Soccer League (Rec), it has become increasingly important over the last few years to hold annual tryouts. Any player who wishes to strengthen their soccer skills by playing at this higher skill level is invited to try out.

We will be holding open tryouts for all on June 1st and 2nd this year. You must be born before August 1, 2002 to be eligible to try out and play in the coming seasons. We will only field travel ready, skilled teams. While we may not field a team at every age group, the number of teams and in which age brackets will be determined by the level of interest at the tryouts.

Q: What's the difference between recreation soccer (RVSL) and travel soccer (MCYSA)?

A:

1.     Travel is a more competitive level of soccer.  Typically tryouts are held with only the best players selected.

2.     Due to the increased level of competition, it is expected that all the players’ skills will improve accordingly. All WSC Travel Teams receive professional training at least one hour per week.

3.     Travel soccer requires both a Fall and Spring commitment to play.

4.     Travel soccer can be more expensive.  Registration fees are for the entire year and, depending on your coach, players may be asked to split the cost of playing in additional tournaments.

5.     Travel soccer generally requires further travel distances to away games.  Each season teams are placed in 6 team flights.  You play each team home and away.  While we participate in a Morris County league, depending on what teams end up in your flight, you may need to travel to towns farther away than those in RVSL.

6.   Recreation soccer games are played on Saturday, while Travel soccer games are played on Sunday afternoons.

If you are interested in travel, the player must make every effort to attend at least ONE of the two tryouts.
